Cyclone in Queensland Empty
PostSubject: Cyclone in Queensland   Cyclone in Queensland Icon_minitime1/2/2011, 12:47 pm

Well as you all know i am a Far North Queenslander.
And we have a massive Cyclone heading our way..
It is going to start gathering momentum by mid morning tomorrow.
The eye is going to get to us around 6 pm brisbane time.
where i Live is going to cop the brunt of it..
It is the biggest Cyclone to hit, In the history of Queensland.
It is going to be the high end of a Cat 4.. which means winds of 225km per hour or more.
A lot of the beaches are being evacuated already.. The hospital is evacuating patients down to Brisbane..
I am so glad I moved out of my old house..It is Low Lying and floods dreadfully and at the beaches.
We will see how this New house bears the queensland weather..
We are Battened down, pantry filled, Animals in and safe.. Generator up and running petrol to keep it going.
all the pot plants and projectiles are stored away.
We have a little bit more to do in the morning..( evacuation kit) just in case.
and get my office area ready for the wait..(its the safest place for a cyclone) well in my house anyway.
Its dead smack bang in the centre of the house with 3 solid internal walls surrounding it.. and one wee little window.
So not much can get in. Odd i thought when we first moved in.. but see the madness now..

We will probably have no electricity for a few days, and i hope my roof stays on!!

Here is the website you can keep track of the cyclone if you wish.
http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDE00902.loop.shtml

Sending out to all our Far North Members, * Keep Safe*
Love and LIght to you all..
I will come back and let you know how we faired in a few days!!

Cyclone in Queensland Empty
PostSubject: Re: Cyclone in Queensland   Cyclone in Queensland Icon_minitime2/2/2011, 5:00 am

I reckon all we can do is hold onto somnething and hang on!!
The rains and winds have started here now..
Its not expected to hit until around 6pm -9pm Brisbane time now..
This is the scariest it has ever been in a cyclone.
The Wallis Island meteorology base was taken out this morning with 290km perhour winds.. That building was built to cat 5 specifications.. Shocked our homes are only built for cat 2-3
The Cyclone has moved further down south, But Cairns is still in the red zone, meaning we still will get those destructive winds of over 250km ph..
we will have a 4mtr storm surge very soon.. apparently many beaches have disappeared. as in no-one can see the water..you know how it goes before a tsunami.

Majority of beaches have been evacuated too.. and Cairns CBD also..

Its now 1pm here now, we are prepared as we can be..
I have turned the radio off, because I dont want to hear how its a matter of survival anymore..
many people are beside themselves, Thousands evacuated yesterday.
I am staying strong even though my nerves are shot. I am staying strong and calm as can be.. *cross fingers* I stay this way LOL!! A good shot of Scotch will do the trick!! Rolling Eyes

Ming you stay safe too!! I will be thinking of you hanging on too!!
You sound like you are in for a rough time also.
Take Care..

I will get back online when i can!!

DB xx

Cyclone in Queensland Empty
PostSubject: Re: Cyclone in Queensland   Cyclone in Queensland Icon_minitime5/2/2011, 3:27 am

We are alive and well. A bit frazzled, but all good.
Clean ups are happening now..
we finally got our electricity and phones back online this morning

Lots of thunder and lightening storms hanging around.. Flash flooding etc..
BY about 3pm every day since cyclone sky goes black and the lightening and thunder starts.
and heavy rains.

But we are fine..
I feel for all of those in Cardwell, Tully, Ingham, Innisfail and Mission Beach.
1 death so far and a couple missing.
Which unfortunately is sad.. But we are so very lucky to have got away with it all so lightly.
The winds were horrific.. Cairns got away with the brunt of it.. the above towns did not..
Cardwell was flattened.
My prayers are going out to all of those who have lost everything and their lives.

I was really fretting over the wildlife.. I was relieved to see my family of birds survived, they live in my garden.
I wouldnt be surprised if there was amass exodus of the Far North Now.
this is the 2nd cyclone in 5 years with more predicted on their way.

Also while i am here..
Prayers and thoughts are with those in Chicago..
Huge snow storm has destroyed a lot. I havent been able to follow it due to communications down.
So i hope theyu faired well enough with little loss.

And Ming I hope you are all good and you all hunkered down and are all safe.

Anyhoo I have a lot of cleaning up to do.. so will be only popping in on and off over the next week..
You all take care
DB xx

sunny glad to see you back and yakking ! We had horrible winds but no deaths. A ship broke free from moorings, an oil rig almost did, some roofs went, and winds were recorded at 131mph in Glencoe and 120mph in Orkney.
I think the whole world is getting more extreme weather and we need to learn how to deal with it.
I hate the noise it makes as it howls in the chimney !! What a Face
I've got a lovely haunted castle for you in circle..... tempt tempt tempt ... Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

PostSubject: Re: Cyclone in Queensland   Cyclone in Queensland Icon_minitime5/2/2011, 8:14 pm

glad you and yours weathered thru Yasi cheers

was teed off US tv had so few weather reports from Oz, even the weather channel....
the last report up here i saw said there were no deaths,no m.i.a.'s, or injuries;
that Australia's evac plan was so put together...

sad to hear about the 1 death and the missing couple....

our nearly nationwide blizzard looked like a mini ice age...
up here the blizzard was south of me by half a state....but we got the deep freeze...
with temps down to 30 below F and windchills down to 45 below F....
walking downtown 2 blocks was a challenge for me, thought i'd become an icicle before i
got to my destination Laughing

this is fairly rare for our southern states to get nasty blizzard conditions like that...
and out east New York, Jersey, etc., really got nailed with snow...
we minnesnowtans are use to it, felt so sorry for them...

PostSubject: Re: Cyclone in Queensland   Cyclone in Queensland Icon_minitime9/2/2011, 1:48 am

Thanks Queeny!
Dont know whether i want to stay in Cairns anymore after that!!
It was scary!! affraid
If it had hit at the Cat 5 that was predicted, Cairns would have been flattened. with everyone in it.
Too many people to evacuate. I know it didnt and cannot live with What if's! But the experience was so terrifying.
And I did get a heads up from My Grandmother who recently passed, and she said we will be fine and its not my time to go.

We Have many decisions to make, whether to pack up and move back down south.
Or stay put.
I dont like change at all!! Getting too old LOL!
But i dont want to go through that again either.

I have been trying to draw cards on it , but it isnt working..
as one girlfriend said to me, The reason I cannot read my own cards for me,, is because it would be cheating LOL!!

Trying to stay positive though, and really looking forwards to Mings Haunted Castle in Circle on Thursday Smile

Poor DB! I can imagine how frightened you all were!

You know, I have a hard time reading for myself when it is a situation in which my mind is pretty much already made up. Perhaps that is why you are having a difficult time doing a reading on this situation too. Just a thought.

PostSubject: Re: Cyclone in Queensland   Cyclone in Queensland Icon_minitime9/2/2011, 9:15 am

Could be the case CN..LOL!

It was funny though this morning, Still unpacking evacuation bags..
And i came accross my daughter who has just turned 9.
She had her Faery Wicca Tarot deck packed LOL!
Out of all the things she possess' she chose her Tarot deck, a little Fairy I got her when she was little,
and a couple of books my husband bought her including her sketch book which for me went without saying. She loves drawing.
It told me a lot about her, and what she finds important.

It was pretty scary CN, and it brought home what is important in life. which i always thought i had a grip on.
But really when it came to the crunch Not a lot of stuff is important at all..
It was people and our personalised things, the stuff that defined us, that was important.
Our evacuation bags were pretty light considering all the stuff we have accumulated.
I am thinking it is a combination of things.
Gran passing and the Floods and cyclone all in a matter of 4 weeks. It has really driven home hard, Life is too darn short to waste.
I guess we need to be closer to some people we havent spent a lot of time with, and want to get to know again.
Now My gran is gone , who was the glue that held me to that side of my family.
Now she is gone. the glues is now thinner and loosened a bit.

I dreamt the other night of my Father..
He just stood there in front of me in full view.
I was pulled towards him.
I think i need to be near him now.
I havent spent much time with him in my lifetime
and he is not overly too well.
so i am thinking maybe it might be nice for the kids to get to know him and for me also.
SO i think that is my draw card to go home.

and my husbands draw card is his aunty with whom he is close and his Sister who he also needs to get to know.

So i really dont need to draw a spread to see what i should do at all.. as you say I have already made up my mind.

Now for a Job..
Cant move without one.
Husband is in the government, so we hoping he can get transfer, from state to state is different, so may be a little harder.. but hopefully we can do it.
*cross fingers* For us

PostSubject: Re: Cyclone in Queensland   Cyclone in Queensland Icon_minitime11/2/2011, 12:55 am

fingers crossed for you, too, DB.

your experience made me think, "What would I pack in my evacuation bag?" that is hard! I have so many things that mean so much to me! not just my tarot cards, but pictures of all my family/ancestors. my great grandmothers china, my parents and my the parents of my hubby's china tea sets. My grandparents roaster, which was given to them on their wedding day. Those things are all so important to me, but would it be practical to put THEM in the evac bag?? prob. not. but, I'd really hate to lose those things. Oh, dear, DB, its hard enough for us adults to go through that, but your children too? I just cannot imagine that! I also still have my stuffed animals from my childhood. two things that were 'gifts' when I was born. (antiques, per the neighbors kid, Laughing ) I just cannot imagine going through that trauma!

I"m glad it is all over for you, and you and the family is fine. It was also so good to have you in the circle today. Smile

Wishing you quiet and safe days now!

I could walk away with nothing, I'm not one for "things". As long as I had my family then I'd be happy to start again. "Things" are just clutter on the roadway of life LOL !
