book says a sony walkman am/fm is easiest to use for this...

I am definitely going out to do this, I have radios here at home, but they are no good for a spirit box. I have audio recorders, Video recorders and the light box. But this spirit box i have been seeing more and more in GA and wondered how to make one so i can see for myself.
Really dont want one that has that loud static noise though, it is so distracting. I do have the rechargeable sound speakers to attach to the radios as well.
I think also thermal imaging is another direction i am looking into too..

In the book do they use Electrical silver paint still?

you go into the back of some radios and and cut
certain wire, a 'mute' wire, to free up the fine tuning so it's easier to scan..

he describes which radios can be hacked this way...
besides the sony walkman or an ordinary one....mentions
certain 'hackables'....

you can use an ordinary radio without hacking into it...if
you have good fingers and hands that don't cramp and tire easily...
manually scan back and forth on the am or shortwave frequencies...

gonna check out my many old boomboxes to see if their radios
work for this, too....

don't know about that paint, DB....wasn't in the hacking instructions
of the book....

Ah Ok , thanks for the explanation Am!! I htink my fingers would tire, I am sure i would want to sit there for some time with one.

The paint was used in the instructions for permanently making your radio scan through the stations. ( in that link I posted) ..I went out yesterday to find a small portable radio that had auto scan. OMG!!! It is cheaper to buy one online, one was $99 and the other was $149 for a little transistor radio.. they know where they can shove that LOL!!
I cant use any radios i have in the house they belong to a stereo system or the kids LOL! Plus, I want to have a small portable one to take with me on ghost hunts. I guess a boom box wouldnt be too bad though, the speakers would be better. food for thought.
