And also please specify what the symbol would pertain to..if anything..
It could apply to a variety of things, please say so!

If you are using information and Images taken from the internet.. Please state references and Url link.
Images must be Public domain Images (free to display anywhere without permission)
Or a photograph taken by yourself or friend and permission is given to display it.

If it is common knowledge then No referencing is necessary. Images still must be public domain though.

PostSubject: The Rose    9/11/2010, 2:47 pm

The Rose is used for many centuries as a symbol for something or another.
One of my favourites is a red Rose for Love.

Here is a Painting by Irish man, Sir John Lavery called the Red Rose 1923

You have the War of the Roses in English history with the Red Rose of Lancaster and the White Rose of York.

War of the Roses

WAR OF THE ROSES HISTORY

Here are a couple of wikipedia sites , Now i know wikipedia can be an unreliable source, but i cannot see anything written here that is unable to be proven.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rose_(symbolism)

Here is another bit of interesting read of our English Rose as Elton John dubbed her in his re written song for her Candle in the Wind.

The cinquefoil (from the french, five-part) is a five petalled rose found in Christian symbolism of the Middle Ages. The five-petalled rose is often found affixed to the tops of Gothic arches, the vesica pisces-shaped doorways and windows thought to represent the womb of Mary. Some historians have speculated that the rose in Gothic architecture is a secret symbol of the feminine principle, one of a multitude of hermetic symbols found in these churches. The symbol itself dates back to Roman times, where it was called the ‘Rose of Venus.’ The rose, with its characteristic five petalled shape

mimicked the pentagrammatic path traced by the planet Venus in the night sky. This, combined with the flower’s natural beauty, made it an obvious symbol of the Goddess of love.”

The Rosicrucian order is also linked to the symbolism of the rose. Rosicrucian is an order of Mystics originating from Germany..

here is an image of the Temple of the Rosy Cross

Here is more of a read..
The 1st link , Links Freemasonary to the symbol of the rose.

You Have the Rose Cross Lamen Familiar to all those who read Tarot. This Cross was the Symbol for the Golden Dawn Movement.

Here is a blog about it..

ROSE CROSS LAMEN

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosy_Cross

This next site does not have the picture anymore but it does give you the meanings to the colours used and symbolism in the rose Cross Lamen
which most of you would have but for our archives I will post up anyway..

http://www.angelfire.com/ab6/imuhtuk/gdmans/lamen/lamen.htm

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Rose_Cross_Lamen.svg

I am a bit frightened that some of these websites linked will disappear one day. So when i have a bit more time i will record the details.

If anyone has anymore information to add to the Rose Please do not hesitate.. this is for all of us to create..

WEebsites used have already been added, All images to my knowledge are in the Public Domain.
and anything not referenced has come from my own knowledge and would more than likely be public knowledge anyway.
